Electricity

The voltage in Japan is 100 volts, which differs from that of North America (120V), Central Europe (230V), and most other regions of the world. Japanese electrical plugs and outlets are similar in shape to those used in North America.

The frequency of electric current in Japan is 50 Hz in the eastern regions (including Tokyo, Yokohama, Tohoku, and Hokkaido) and 60 Hz in the western regions (including Kanazawa, Nagoya, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Shikoku, and Kyushu). However, most electrical equipment is not affected by this frequency difference. A possible exception is timing devices, such as certain clocks.
